Robertson dealer in N.O., this truck was purchased by Autin´s Furniture and Upholstery of New Orleans. After it had completed its service as a furniture service vehicle it made its way as far as the Grand Canyon to eventually reside in the Texas hill country outside of Austin.It eventually came to Charlotte, North Carolina where it was stored until its revival in 2010. The majority of the paint is original and the original Logos were touched up in the original colors. It is a reliable daily driver that has been meticulously repaired. In 2011 I purchased it from Monkey Nut in Charlotte NC and it now resides in Nebraska.Body:Over all, the body is fairly solid with most of the original paint still showing. It has typical dents and dings along with the usual rust. There is obvious accident damage that was previously ´repaired´ on the left dogleg, The left door has been replaced with an incorrect early original paint door. The right lower dogleg and a-pillar bottom suffers from a run in with a larger or immobile object. The nose had a ´repair´ performed on it in the past as well. The frame is fairly clean and solid. Out riggers and jack points are nice and still function as intended. Cross beams are solid as is the heat tube, heater tube has new original style insulation installed. Rockers are soft with obvious rust through in spots. (Gerson panels in hand.) Front floor will need the outer portions repaired. (Gerson Panels in hand).Cargo floor is fairly solid but will need repair in spots. Lower nose is very nice overall but does have a few areas that will need to be repaired. New Wolfsburg west mirror arms, original mirror on left and WW repro on right. New seals around doors and new seals on driver side glass. Passenger window seals have been completely renewed and the passenger door has had the ABS plastic door panel installed. Front and rear bumper are original German units that have plenty of character. Rear bumper restoration has been started with new paint, over riders yet to be blasted and painted. Deck lid hinges are rebuilt and prop function properly, treasure chest hinges are rebuilt, one has a functioning prop and the others prop need to be repaired. Original key works one treasure chest lock and the original driver´s door handle. Body and Metal work:Metal replacement has already been started on and performed at a professional level using Klassic Fab panels:Recent work includes the following:-Repair and replacement of the right side bed frame including the treasure chest carrier. -Repair of right rear wheel well tub. -Replacement of right rear splash guard. -Replacement of battery tray-Replacement of rear pillar at decklid including the support triangle. -Repair of a portion of the right lower corner. -Removal and repair of the right wheel well skin. Skin is currently not welded to body in order to access the treasure chest area for further work. -The bed skin has been removed properly for repair and access to treasure chest belly and bed frame. The forward skin half has been replaced with a donor section while the rear half is original and in need of replacement or repair. At this time both halves are secured to the bed frame with sheet metal screws in order to remove for future work.-A small portion of the head board was cut out just above the outer bed frame.-Bondo was removed from the nose skin and the sheet metal was body worked back into shape in prep for repair. -Bondo was removed from left dogleg in prep for repair.-Rear frame and undercarriage from the torsion tube rearward along with the transmission bay was media blasted and paintedInterior:The interior is nice overall. The original paint is very well preserved throughout.-An original paint radio block off plate was located and installed.-The steering wheel is original to the truck and in good condition although it does have the typical cracks. A deluxe horn button was installed to dress up the wheel. -The seat was media blasted, painted and covered with impressively nice original style upholstery correct for a hump seat.-The cab has new Werksberg ABS panels throughout. -The speedometer is a correct style, it was disassembled, cleaned, new colored indicator light filters installed and reassembled. It retains the patina look, the speedometer works but unfortunately the odometer does not.- Steering column, bracket, gear shifter, and pedals were cleaned/blasted and painted new knee guard rubber-New floor matElectrical:The electrical system has been ´updated´ to 12 volt and completely gone through, all connections cleaned and repaired where needed with. -The head light assemblies were restored while retaining original aged rings and glass, housings were blasted and painted and new seals were installed.-Correct front turn signals, original clear lenses and correct bases were located cleaned up and installed.-Clearance lights, vintage clearance lights were installed on the truck when new, these were disassembled, the bases blasted and painted, the housings and glass cleaned and reinstalled -Fuse box was cleaned and rewired properly-All lights on the speedometer and fuel gauge work correctly, -Turn signal switch was disassembled and cleaned, housing was blasted and painted.-All switches work properly including emergency flashers-Ignition switch is an early bug switch that fits into the enlarged switch hole-Over head light was thoroughly cleaned and a nice original lens located and installed.-New tail light buckets with original trim rings and lenses -Cleaned and functional tag light.-All engine electrical functions properly. Wiring was repaired or replaced with similar color coding.-Newer Interstate batteryBrakes:All new brake system with upgrades. All components used are either German, Italian USA or Brazilian, no cheap Chinese parts used!-New metal and rubber brake lines throughout-Correct rubber grommets used on all metal lines-Correct spring clips used on all rubber lines-Dual circuit master cylinder with ´67 only fluid reservoir-Late front and rear brakes-All four drums were turned-New bearings in both front drums-New wheel cylinders on all four wheels-New Shoes on all four wheels-E-brakes works properlySuspension:The suspension has been completely gone through, cleaned up, repaired. Some photos show the car as I bought it modified to gain lift. I have since installed a stock beam and returned the truck to stock height. - (This mod has been reversed, with a stock beam installed. If you like the raised look, I retained the modified beam). Late front beam was blasted, centers cut and turned to lift the ride height and painted. Needle bearings were cleaned and greased, trailing arm seals were replaced, beam bolts were aligned in proper position when installed.- Leaf springs were gone through, cleaned, broken ones replaced and reinstalled-Spindles were good used units that were cleaned and greased. -Center pin and bushing have been replaced-New drag link-New tie rod ends-New steering damper-Steering box/column was removed, thoroughly cleaned, new shaft seal installed and painted-Pedal arms were blasted and painted, any moving parts associated were cleaned and lubricated.-New bearings in both front drums-rear spring plates were blasted, slightly notches for greater travel and painted, spring plates were installed one notch up for more lift in the rearDrive train has been completely rebuilt .Motor:-Rebuilt 1600CC dual port using a type 3 case installed in March of 2010 it currently has approximately 25K miles on it.-New dual Solex 34 carburetors -New Bosch generator-New Bosch Brazilian 009 distributor-New copper core plug wires-New original style Bosch Voltage regulator-New heavy gauge EU made bus muffler-Restored heat exhangers-New original style Brosol fuel pump-New Sachs Clutch pressure plate and disk-Engine has all necessary cooling tin installed and sealed properly-Engine to body seal present-Thing engine guards installedTransmission/ rear axles:Rebuilt transaxle assembly installed as of 1-24-11-12volt transmission and big nut reduction boxes rebuilt by Foreign Aide of Albuquerque New Mexico-Original style throwout bearing-nosecone has new bushing, seal and boot-new shift rod bushings and boots at tubeWheels:Bus 15 rims were blasted and painted the correct color although they are starting to show wear. All 5 tires are Kumho with less than 500 miles since installation. (Some photos show the Nanco 15X7 and are 30 inches tall with an aggressive off road tread, approximately 70% tread wear left on tires. These tires are available for sale.)Accessories:-Wolfgang safaris were disassembled and painted Dove blue. No white tabs here!-Thing engine guards, powder coated in safety orange.-New radio/cd with Ipod hookup and speakers. Radio is mounted using a marine abs holder to the fresh air duct, the speakers are installed on the front kick panels also using marine surface mounting.-Tow hitch currently installed, included in sale for an extra $200.Included but not pictured or installed are:-Klassic Fab inner and outer rockers-KF rear left short rocker-Thing engine guard, the portion that mounts on bottom of motor-Werksberg drivers side door panels with pockets-correct and original to the truck e-brake handle base cover-original to the truck, correct logo driver door glassThis truck is a reliable daily driver with tons of potential. When considering the extensive amount or work that has been performed with an eye for details we feel it is reasonably priced. Details: 1974 Volkswagen Beetle. This would be a quick/easy restoration for a Volkswagen lover! It has approx. 70,000 original miles, orange in color (original paint; never been touched). Car runs really good, had a tune-up a couple years ago when we got it. It has a dual-port 1600 cc 4 cylinder engine, which I was told was the same as a Super. It had a new fully rebuilt transmission installed on 9-20-2010 (still have receipt totalling $1275.38). The brakes were recently done, although I think they need to be bled again. Car needs new tires. The blinkers do not cancel when you turn (this happened when the tranny was put in because they worked before that). It could use a new paint job, but as far as rust, there isn´t any. There isn´t any rust on the floor boards either, which if you know VW Beetles, they´re famous for having those rust out completely. The car was always garage-kept until I got it two years ago. The seats need to be redone, the upholstery is beyond shot, but everything´s in tact. Like I said, it would be an easy restoration job for someone that knows Volkswagens. I just don´t know enough about them, as I found out. Now my project can become someone elses!LOCAL PICKUP ONLY!
