Details: $700 OBOYOU are in for a treat. Up for sale is my 1994 Volkswagen Golf III GL. With a 2.0 L I4, and 5 speed manual transmission . I have meticulously cared for the engine in this vehicle, but unfortunately I have neglected to replace the front wheel bearings, which has become absolutely necessary at this point for the car to be safely driven. I do not currently have the time or money to take care of this so I have decided to sell it. The front wheel bearing job will cost anywhere between 400-700 dollars in a shop. The parts alone cost about $200, but I would not suggest doing this job yourself unless you have ample experience, it is more difficult than your average wheel bearing job. The paint is deteriorating as well, and the body has a few small dings, and is missing a few trim pieces. Front door is black (just so you know which one to use). The engine has 218,000 miles. 70,000 of which I have put on the car in mostly freeway miles between Ashland and Portland. The plus side about this car is that it has ~12,000 miles on a new head (never touched by anything but blue vw coolant), timing belt, water pump, rebuilt transmission ,and new clutch kit, as well as recently replaced rear wheel bearings, KYB gas shocks, and a recently replaced muffler. I´ve also replaced both the starter motor and ignition switch in the last month. This is a very reliable vehicle that should run problem free for quite some time as long as the front wheel bearings are replaced. I have done most of the work on this car myself, with any major work done by either Siskiyou Import Service in Ashland, or D&M Volkswagen Service in Beaverton. Before I purchased the car it was always serviced at VW dealerships, or Henry´s Foreign Auto in Phoenix. I have service records for the entire life of the vehicle, and know how long every single part has been on the car and the circumstances under which it was replaced. The only things that are not working on the vehicle (besides the front bearings) are the Sunroof (motor works, but there is a problem with the track), AC has stopped working (may be an easy fix) as well as the rear defroster. It has VW Premium sound with an aftermarket CD player. Although its aesthetic value may be somewhat diminished, this car has more character than you could ever want in a piece of transportation. This is my favorite car that I have ever owned, and it is hard to see it go. This car has taken me all over the Northwest only breaking down on me once (with a blown head gasket) , and is truly one of the last years of the reliable VW´s. He would be a great fixer upper for someone looking for a reliable vehicle, or anyone looking for a solid VW engine, transmission etc, or anyone in search of the meaning of Fahrvergnügen. Details: Seats 7 and the back seat folds into a queen size bed. Has a 1.9l gas engine that ran great up until recently. It still runs but started smoking white smoke. After doing some research it seems like a head sealing issue, possible a gasket which I do have for one head along with various other gaskets that ca,e with the set when the rear main was done. 4 speed manual trans with no known issues. Odometer reads 233,000 and change but I do not think this is the original motor . I did a compression check a week or so before it started smoking and its was at 130+ in all 4 cylinders. Starts right up hot or cold. Has power steering but the a/c has been removed. I still have all of the a/c except the compressor, it was missing when I bought it. Brand new full clutch kit installed few hundred miles ago. Rear main seal was also replaced just for insurance. Several coolant hoses were replaced and the system flushed and filled with brand new coolant. Oil was just changed before smoking issue started. The interior is complete minus carpet in the cargo area. I removed all of the upholstery from the seats and washed them so it is all very clean, though faded. I have the pictured Yakima racks for hauling surfboards etc that can be included for an additional $100. Body is in pretty good shape there is some rock chips on the front that are starting to rust and various dings throughout but nothing severe. No through rust anywhere on the body. All lights/wipers/etc work. There is a crack in the windshield. I even have a Bentley factory service manual that costs like $80.Clear Oregon title in my name in hand. Tags are paid thru 12/2013.
