Fuel efficiency is 45.7 mpg (average) and I´m a spirited driver. That´s about 650 miles on one full tank. You can probably get 700+ miles if driven within the speed limit, no A/C or heat running and hypermiling it, etc, etc. LOL! The engine is perfect; timing belt swapped at 170K, starts right away in cold weather, some barely visible rust, everything is in good or better condition, interior is in great condition, breaks/pads/rotors are in fine working condition, no noise other than the normal noise of the diesel, needs a new set of tires though. Details: For sale is a 1970 Volkswagen T2 Transporter AKA a walk-thru bay window bus. Currently it needs a tune-up; it will start to run but eventually dies out. I don´t know too much about the engine restoration work that was done by the previous owner. He told me he replaced the carb, fuel pump, and alternator. I am pretty sure the intake is new as well. He also converted it to electronic ignition so there are no points to mess with. The engine is basically rebuilt as you can see from the photo and shouldn´t need more than some adjustments. He also started to redo the interior with grey low nap carpet on the panels. The van had no seats when I bought it. I have since purchased them but they need to be re-upholstered and installed. With the seats the van will now seat seven. The exterior is primed (spray can) except for a part of the back and the roof. I started to sand it down to see what was underneath. It will need a little body work but for its age this is a really solid bus. The underbody is in great shape, no rot, only two very small holes. There is very little rust on the van overall because it is from out west, New Mexico I think. I don´t believe it has been driven in a Wisconsin winter. There are new shocks in the front, the rear seem okay but are old. It will need brake work. I don´t know what the extent of the work will be. They work but the pedal is very soft. Obviously the van would need to be trailered or towed. I have refurbished all five rims and mounted the tires. Tires were special ordered specifically for this bus and have zero miles on them. The ´green´ picture was taken when I bought it a few years ago. Although not pictured it does have the front grill and the front mounted spare tire. The bus will, of course, come with the requisite spare parts which I have been accumulating. This includes: a new brake light housing, two side windows with seals, a new side door seal, new mirrors, door handles with good chrome, a steering column with a better steering wheel, the original (damaged) driver seat, a replacement quarter panel (drivers side), and a second set of floor mats, and a small box of random things. There may be a few other things that I am forgetting. The van will also come with four different manuals including the infamous ´How to Keep your Volkswagen Alive.´ The previous owner also did some odd stuff with the wiring so that will need to be addressed. I was planning to replace the harness with an updated one that has a modern fuse box. If you bought this bus you could have it in show car shape for a few thousand dollars. I would like to sell the bus for $3200 but I would aslo consider trading for a Vanagon that seats seven, an Astro/Safari Van with AWD, or a Volvo wagon with third row seats . It has just over 96k miles and still runs great. The air pump could use being cleaned (It makes some noise for about a minute after a cold start on a cold morning). It has the wheels off of a 2004 GTI VR6 (much nicer than what came stock on the 1.8T) Interior is black leather with heated seats. It also has the factory rubber ´Monster´ floor mats along with the standard carpet mats. The front brakes are almost new and the trans fluid and filter have been changed recently.There are some aftermarket parts. There is a cold air intake with a K&N cone filter and a K&N drycharger to keep water out. There were a couple of pcv hoses that needed replaced, so they were replaced with the silicone counterparts from EuroStar. Looking to sell for $4000 obo.The body is in great shape aside from a couple small parking lot dings and the interior is also great.
